چکیده

Parallel heat flux in a steady-state SOL is determined via fully kinetic simulations using the 1d3v particle-in-cell code PARASOL. In order to better evaluate the heat load on the divertor plates, the ion and electron velocity distributions functions (VDF), heat flux, and heat flux limiters αi and αe are calculated. The effects of collisionality, recycling rate, ion-electron mass ratio, and source model are examined. Results for the VDF are explained qualitatively and the average values of both flux limiters are found to be approximately 0.1, but with a large spread from 1.4× 10 ∼ 2 with a complex dependence on the simulation parameters.

Two-dimensional Full Particle Simulation of the Flow Patterns in the Scrape-off-layer Plasma for Upper- and Lower- Null Point Divertor Configurations in Tokamaks

The plasma flow in the scrape-off layer (SOL) plays an important role for the particle control in magnetic fusion reactors. The flow is expected to expel Helium ashes and to retain impurities in the divertor region, if it is directed towards the divertor plate. It has been experimentally observed, however, that the flow direction is sometimes opposite; from the plate side to the SOL middle side...

Cross-Field Transport in the SOL: Its Relationship to Main Chamber and Divertor Neutral Control in Alcator C-Mod

The sources of neutrals at the outer midplane of the plasma are discussed. We find that both the flux of neutrals escaping the divertor through leaks and ion recycling at main chamber surfaces appear to contribute. The ion flux to the walls is larger than the flux entering the divertor and comparable to recycling at the divertor plate. The cause of these high wall ion fluxes is an enhancement o...

Cross-field plasma transport and main chamber recycling in diverted plasmas on Alcator C-Mod

Cross-field particle transport increases sharply with distance into the scrape-off layer and plays a dominant role in the ‘main-chamber recycling’ regime in Alcator C-Mod, a regime where most of the plasma particle efflux recycles on the main-chamber walls rather than flows into the divertor volume. This observation has potentially important implications for a reactor: Contrary to the ideal pic...

Transport of Particles and Energy in the Edge Plasma of the

In this thesis analysis and numerical modeling of transport in the edge plasma in the Alcator C-Mod tokamak are presented. Several important results were obtained in the course of this work, providing a new understanding of some aspects of the physical picture of the edge plasma in C-Mod. The key finding are: * Plasma escaping from the core recycles on the main chamber wall rather than in the d...

Neutral Particle Dynamics in the Alcator

This thesis presents an experimental study of neutral particle dynamics in Alcator C-Mod a high powerand particle-density tokamak with an advanced poloidal divertor. The primary diagnostic used in the study is a set of six neutral pressure gauges, including special-purpose gauges built for in situ tokamak operation. While a low main chamber neutral pressure coincides with high plasma confinemen...
